Clark Rector Jr., Executive Vice President – Government Affairs
The bill introduced in the Mississippi Senate to prohibit state agencies from purchasing advertising time or space has died with no vote from the full Senate. The legislation would have applied to virtually all media in the state including radio and television, newspapers, magazines, the Internet, billboards and others. The measure was being pushed by the state’s powerful Lt. Governor, Tate Reeves (R). It was repeatedly pulled from the Senate agenda after being scheduled for votes. On March 15 the Senate sent the bill back to committee, killing it for the session. Local AAF members, led by Mississippi legislative chair Maggie Clark, and the Mississippi media were very vocal in their opposition to the legislation and effective in making their opinions know to lawmakers.
